The Mount Royal Support Staff Association endeavors to maintain a mutual and respectful relationship between the Support Staff and Mount Royal University. The MRSSA has the responsibility of ensuring fair and equitable working conditions for staff and strives to uphold a constant communication link between the staff and the University. We recognize and promote important contributions and continued efforts of our staff. In a collaborative effort, the MRSSA and Support Staff build the foundation of strength upon which the University rests.

Committees

The MRSSA currently has eight standing committees including:

The MRSSA encourages its members to actively participate in both MRSSA committees and Mount Royal University committees. If you are interested in sitting on a committee, contact one of the committee members for further details.


Education, Development & Training (EDT) Committee

As per Article 28 & 29 of the Collective Agreement, the University will provide annual funding for the purpose of reimbursing the tuition/fees paid by regular, continuing term, conditionally funded term, limited term and replacement term employees and their spouses and dependant children who have participated in education, training, and/or development activities.

The EDT Committee will be responsible for determining the individual maximum allowances available to members who have successfully completed a course(s) at an educational institution or a professional facility; participated in work related conferences; or pursued courses related to recreation, leisure or personal improvement in accordance with the Education, Development and Training Committee Policy.

This committee meets every Wedneday in the MRSSA boardroom from 11am-noon

Develop, Train & Learn (DTL) Committee

The mandate of the Develop, Train & Learn Committee is to fund work-related group learning, training and development activities which are offered collaboratively.

  • Develop
    Inspire people to develop their individual and/or group capacity for their work, to plan their careers and to connect with the institution; through courses and workshops, individuals form connections in process improvement communities, departments, interdepartmental communities, MRU communities, and professional communities
  • Train
    Enhance and apply skills through training to adapt to new standards, expectations and environments, and to meet personal expectations about the job
  • Learn
    Encourage on-going participation in learning; create communities of practice; create repository of learning materials available on the web and in hardcopy

MRSSA members can access the funds either through submitting proposals for group funding or suggesting to the Committee learning opportunities, such as workshops or speakers, they wish the Committee to organize.

Professional Development Days Committee

The MRSSA Professional Development Days is starting to plan for 2011! The Executive Board is looking for volunteers to join the planning committee. If you are interested in becoming a committee member, please contact the MRSSA Office. To learn more about the Professional Development Committe read our Terms of Reference.

This 2 day conference is for all support staff, exempt staff and management. These days consist of a variety of sessions, pertinent to both the work environment and to our personal live, and of course time to meet and mingle with our fellow staff members.

Policies & Procedures Committee

The Policies & Procedures Committee is responsible for developing, reviewing, and revising all MRSSA policies and procedures. Negotiating Committee

The Negotiating Committee is comprised of 1 to 5 MRSSA members including the MRSSA President.

The Negotiating Committee is responsible for bargaining a collective agreement in the best interest of its MRSSA members in cooperation with Mount Royal University.

Audit and Finance Committee

The role of the Audit and Finance Committee is to assist the Executive in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities with respect to finances, internal controls and risk exposure. On behalf of the Executive, the Audit and Finance Committee monitors, evaluates, advises and makes recommendations on matters affecting the financial planning, reporting and performance of the Association; internal financial control policies and processes; and compliance with legal, regulatory and contractual obligations.

Labour Relations Committee

The Labour Relations Committee’s mandate is to work as a team to mediate and facilitate employment and labor relations matters for MRSSA members, especially relating to the Collective Agreement with the Board of Governors of Mount Royal University. The committee has the authority to address membership concerns on behalf of the Executive of the MRSSA.

Social Engagement and Communications Committee

The Social Engagement and Communications Committee works to engage members in the Association and to communicate information of concern or interest to them. Through events, social activities, and the dissemination of information, the committee aims to increase member participation and raise awareness of the services provided to the members. The intent is to encourage the members to become more aware of the activities of the MRSSA while building and maintaining the MRSSA community. In addition, the committee works to raise the profile of the MRSSA in the Mount Royal community.
