The Mount Royal Support Staff Association endeavors to maintain a mutual and respectful relationship between the Support Staff and Mount Royal University. The MRSSA has the responsibility of ensuring fair and equitable working conditions for staff and strives to uphold a constant communication link between the staff and the University. We recognize and promote important contributions and continued efforts of our staff. In a collaborative effort, the MRSSA and Support Staff build the foundation of strength upon which the University rests.

Learning & Development (HR)

Develop, Train & Learn (DTL) Fund

The mandate of the Develop, Train & Learn Committee is to fund work-related group learning, training and development activities which are offered collaboratively.

The Develop, Train and Learn (DTL) Committee invites MRSSA members to submit proposals for group work-related development, training and learning activities. Examples of possible activities are as follows:

  • holding retreats to build team relations, enhance communications or adapt to change
  • having workshops facilitated to develop competencies or support learning
  • building skills to assist members in ‘career building’ or moving to other areas in the university
  • forming partnerships transcending university areas (collaborating with other university departments)
  • collaborating with professional colleagues outside the university

Education, Development & Training (EDT) Fund

As per Article 28 of the Collective Agreement, the University will provide an annual grant of $44,000 for the purpose of reimbursing the tuition/fees paid by regular, continuing term, conditionally funded term, limited term and replacement term employees who have participated in education, training, and/or development activities. (Green form)

As per Article 29.1 of the Collective Agreement, the University will provide an annual grant of $10,000 to provide financial assistance for spouses and dependant children of the regular, continuing term, conditionally funded term, limited term and replacement term full-time and part-time support staff employees.(Blue Form)*Please note that all employess must have successfully completed their probation period to qualify for financial assistance.

As per Article 29.2 of the Collective Agreement, the University will provide an annual grant of $33, 000 for the purpose of providing bursaries to MRSSA members who are registered in one or more credit, non-credit extension certificate courses or professional designation courses offered at any accredited post-secondary college or university. (Salmon Form) *Please note that all employess must have successfully completed their probation period to qualify for financial assistance.

Application Period

Apply within the application periods set for each semester (Fall, Winter, Spring & Summer).

Fall: Aug. 15 – Oct. 15

Winter: Dec. 15 - Feb. 15;

Spring: April 15 - May 30;

Summer: June 15 - July 31

Funding Formula

The individual baseline grant is calculated from the funding allocated for the semester divided by the number of applications. Since many of the applications are for less than the calculated grant, the total difference is divided by the grant requested, resulting in a percentage that is awarded over and above the baseline grant.
